The History and characteristics of the bengal cat
Brief History
The bengal cat is a popular modern hybrid which has been produced
by mating a wild asian leopard cat with a domestic cat. The first
offspring of this particular mating are known as F1, and the next
generation is known as F2 and so on.
F1 and F2 males are sterile however fortunately females are fertile
and often have litters of 1 to 3 kittens. These are then bred with
domestic cats to produce studs and queens used for breeding.
It is not until the 4th generation that the hybrids are recognised
as bengals and can be exhibited on the show bench.
Characteristics
Bengal cats have very loving personalities and make excellent house
pets. Although their requirements are fundamentally the same as
any cat, they have certain unique characteristics. Bengals love
company and we would always recommend considering getting two kittens.
Bengals do not move like other cats, they will prowl around your
house and stalk their toys like a real leopard going in for the
kill. Bengal cats are very muscular and agile cats and love to climb.
Bengals are highly intelligent and quickly become very attached
to their owners.,
